Past Conferences

Each year, the IACA selects a conference site based on a variety of factors. Here are the past conference sites and summaries.

2023 - Grapevine, TX

The 33rd Annual Training Conference was held at the Gaylord Texas resort in Grapevine, Texas from August 28-September 1, 2023. The country themed event set a record of 774 attendees. It included multiple learning tracks as well as the first Executive Track to assist law enforcement leadership with maximizing their agency's analytical capacity. Members of the Department of Criminal Analysis for the National Police of Ukraine presented about expanding their capabilities and how analysts played a role in war crimes investigations. View 2023 Schedule. 2022 - Chicago, IL

The IACA's 32nd Annual Training Conference was held at the historic Palmer House Hilton in Chicago, Illinois from August 22-26, 2022. In addition to a dynamic week of learning, attendees enjoyed 1920's atmosphere at the welcome reception followed by entertaining karaoke at the social networking event.  View 2022 Schedule

2021 - Las Vegas, NV

The IACA’s 31st Annual Training Conference was held at the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada from August 23-27, 2021. This event was our first in-person Training Conference since the COVID lockdowns in 2020. View 2021 Schedule.

2020 - Virtual Conference

The IACA’s 30th Annual Training Conference was held virtually from August 19-23, 2020. Due to the COVID Pandemic, we were unable to hold an in-person Annual Conference. We were able to provide several presentations in a virtual format! All of the presentations were offered completely FREE. Seating for each class was limited to 500 attendees. This event was well attended with sessions that covered a variety of topics for all skill levels. 

2019 - National Harbor, MD

The IACA’s 29th Annual Training Conference was held at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center in National Harbor, Maryland from August 19-23, 2019. This event was well attended with attendees learning new tactics and strategies, discussing and sharing new ideas and networking with peers from the United States and around the world. Sessions covered a variety of topics for all skill levels including case studies and hands-on computer labs. The sponsors and exhibitors who participated in this year’s vendor expo, showcasing technology, products, and resources and their participation helped to make the event a huge success! 2018 - Newport Beach, CA

The IACA’s 28th Annual Training Conference was held at the Newport Beach Marriott Hotel & Spa in Newport Beach, California from September 17-21, 2018. This was our largest conference to date. The sponsors and exhibitors who participated in this year’s vendor expo, showcasing technology, products, and resources and their participation helped to make the event a huge success! 2017 - New Orleans, LA

The IACA’s 27th Annual Training Conference was held at the Hilton Riverside Hotel in New Orleans, Louisiana from September 11-15, 2017. This conference had 523 attendees representing 12 different countries and 41 U.S. states! Attendees were able to choose from 72 training sessions across 6 different tracks, including a hands-on computer lab, sponsored by ESRI. There were also 3 general sessions for everyone to attend together.

2016 - Louisville, KY

The 2016 Annual Training Conference was held at the Marriott Downtown Louisville in Louisville, Kentucky from September 19-23, 2016. Nearly 400 attendees received training in 64 sessions across 6 different training tracks. 

2015 - Denver, CO

The 2015 Annual Training Conference was held at the Hyatt Regency Denver Tech Center in Denver, Colorado from September 22-25, 2015. Preconference training was held on Monday, September 21st. The conference was a great success with nearly 500 attendees from all over the world coming together for a week-long immersion in crime analysis training.

2014 - Bellevue, WA

The 2014 Annual Training Conference was held at the Hyatt Regency Bellevue in Bellevue, Washington from September 9-12, 2014. Preconference training was held on Monday, September 8. There were nearly 500 attendees from all over the world in attendance.

2013 - Fort Lauderdale, FL

The 2013 Annual Training Conference, held in Fort Lauderdale, Florida during the week of September 9-13, 2013. Nearly 450 attendees came together from a total of 10 different countries, including 40 different U.S. states and the District of Columbia, Austria, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Hong Kong, Switzerland, Taiwan, Trinidad & Tobago and the United Kingdom.

2012 - Henderson, NV

The 2012 Annual Training Conference was held at Lake Las Vegas in Henderson, Nevada during the week of September 10–14, 2012. Just over 370 attendees came from 34 states, the District of Columbia, Austria, Canada, Chile, Columbia, France, Hong Kong, Netherlands, South Korea, Trinidad & Tobago, and the United Kingdom.

2011 - Cape Cod, MA

September 19-23, the IACA partnered with The Massachusetts Association of Crime Analysts (MACA) for the 2011 Joint Training Conference in Hyannis, Massachusetts. This was a very successful conference, with just over 270 in attendance from all over the world, including Austria, Netherlands, Chile, Hong Kong, Canada, and the United Kingdom. Forty-two states were represented by hundreds of analysts.Local media attended and wrote articles about the International Conference, including the Barnstable Patriot.

2010 - Arlington, TX

In 2010, the IACA joined with the Center for Problem-Oriented Policing to deliver the largest conference in IACA or POP history. Over 800 people attended the conference and enjoyed their stay in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex.

2009 – Scottsdale, AZ

The IACA and the Arizona Association of Crime Analysts (AACA) teamed up to present the 2009 Joint Training Conference at the beautiful DoubleTree Scottsdale Resort.

2008 – St. Petersburg, FL

The 2008 conference at the Tradewinds Resort was by far one of the most memorable conferences. Beautiful location, awesome training and more vendors than ever before.

2007 – Pasadena, CA

The 2007 Conference was held in Pasadena, CA by IACA and California Crime and Intelligence Analyst Association (CCIAA). For the second time in 7 years the two associations teamed up to provide training. Over 340 people were in attendance, and analysts from 8 countries around the world.

2006 – New Orleans, LA

The 16th Annual IACA Conference was held on September 11-14 at the New Orleans Marriott at the Convention Center.  Over 150 attendees from 9 different countries helped to make the conference successful in many ways.  Over forty speakers presented on topics ranging from fundamental skills to advanced techniques. Twenty-three conference attendees volunteered their time with Habitat for Humanity to build homes in Musician’s Village to assist post-Hurricane Katrina.

2005 – Arlington, VA

The 15th Annual IACA Training Conference, held in Arlington, Virginia from September 21-24, was full of milestones and firsts. The 2005 conference was the first to give problem analysis its own track, with sessions devoted to problem identification, strategies and implementation. It was also the first conference in which the IACA Certification Exam was offered.

2004 - Seattle, WA

Problem-solving was the major theme of the 2004 conference, held from September 8-11 in Seattle. Herman Goldstein, the conceptualist behind problem-oriented policing, gave the keynote. There was also a computer lab with hands-on training as well as focus on research and statistics skill sets that gave the conference it’s “official” theme, “Analyze This!”. The members of the Northwest Regional Crime Analysis Network (NORCAN) were instrumental in helping to plan and execute this successful conference.

2003 - Kansas City, MO

The IACA met October 27 – 30, 2003, in the home of jazz and barbecue for its 13th annual training conference, teamed with the Mid-American Regional Crime Analysis Network (MARCAN). With a theme of “Certification,” training focused on the 20 skill sets identified by the IACA’s certification process. Classes included fundamentals of crime analysis, research and statistics training, crime mapping, data integrity, demographic analysis, temporal analysis, and a hands-on computer lab.

2002 - Orlando, FL

In 2002, IACA partnered with the Florida Crime and Intelligence Analysts’ Association (FCIAA) to bring “The Crime Analyst and Homeland Security” to our members. The event included a panel on the relationship between crime analysis and intelligence analysis. .

2001 – Los Angeles, CA

The California Crime and Intelligence Analysts’ Association (CCIAA), specifically the Southern California chapter, and IACA presented our conference “For Analysts, By Analysts.” Working analysts instructed their colleagues on topics ranging from public speaking to criminology theory to Visual Basic. 

2000 - Denver, CO

For the 10th annual conference, “Dedication to Analysis”, the IACA returned to the location of its first conference, Denver, Colorado. Classes included pattern recognition, creating a hands-on crime bulletin, Microsoft Access queries, and crime analysis on the web.
